Personally I believe the whole 'pistol brace' issue should BE a NON - issue however lets not 'pull punches'.

The idea for the pistol brace was originally developed (supposedly) to help disabled veterans and shooters with physical limitations HOWEVER it doesn't take much 'imagination' to see that was largely in part a 'misnomer' and the REAL intent WAS for it to be used as a stock. If NOT then WHY do most of them have a VERTICLE butt pads instead of say, a 'U' shaped device on the rear that would wrap around a persons forearm and a strap included to secure it?

My belief is IF this was NEVER called a 'pistol brace' it would have most likely NEVER become the issue it has.

I'll hand it to the designer of this by attempting to hide it's true intent by calling it a 'pistol brace' but the fact remains the true intent is pretty easy to see and probably made it the issue it has become.

Not in the case of the SBA4 Brace that I use. It spreads over the top of the forearm, and has wings that runs down either side.

The place brace that my AR came with was piss poor to be used as a brace or a stock. Too thin and rigid to shoulder comfortably ant only 1/8 in thick and the paddle area doesn’t conform to the arm, so just wrapping Velcro through the slot and strapping it to your forearm isn’t comfortable either.

My left hand doesn’t really work anymore. When I sighted in my pistol I shouldered the brace and had the hand guard on a rest. It’s really wide and not uncomfortable like the blade brace that came with it.

When firing with one arm at close targets I can spread the wings over my forearm for support. Which is how I plan to use it to engage close targets. Fire from the hip and I won’t even need the sights. I may add a laser. But for home defense, my longest shot in the house would be 40 feet.

My pistol is 11.5 inches in the barrel, but I may get another upper that is even shorter.
