Ever get something you thought was stupid or useless, then it became one of your most-used pieces of gear? My uncle gave me this cheap headlamp I was embarrassed to use. Thing's been on every hunt for eight years now and still works. What gift did you sleep on that proved you wrong?

Well, not me but my wife. She laughed when I gave her a purple folding knife. But she winds up using it everyday to open packages that come in the mail. She is always ordering stuff online. She gets about 10 packages a week.

I have carried a knife since I was a boy. Most were cheap, and didn’t hold an edge. My wife gave me an upgraded knife over my usual carry for Christmas. It certainly holds an edge! Time to return my Winchester knife to the safe. I am no collector but seems like there is always a use for one

That Damascus blade is great

I got a headlamp ages ago and even though it's not a fancy brand, I knew it would be helpful. It’s the first thing I grab for early sits, cooking late at the camp and for checking gear after dark or anything that needs me to work with my hands. That goes to show that the simplest stuff is some of the most reliable.
