I have been shooting revolvers for the last couple of years, ever since my son gave me a snub-nose stainless Colt Python as a gift. It has a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 inch barrel. I have shot a variety of .38 Special, .38 Special +P, and .357 Magnum ammo out of it. The best load as far as group tightness is Minute Man .357 Magnum Cream of Whoopass ammo.

It uses Hornaday XTP 158gr JHP Projectiles and Starline Brass. From my Python at 40 feet you can get 3 rounds in the same hole off of a rest. In that gun it is a wrist wrecker for sure, but it is accurate and is much cleaner than other rounds that I have used, especially the .38 special loads from Winchester, which leaves a lot of unburnt powder.

In my six inch Taurus 66 it will do 1/4 inch groups at 25 yards off a rest, single action. It is still punishing though.

I buy it in the “Soup Can”. It is about 80 bucks with shipping for a can of 75 rounds. Very high qaulity ammo, made in the PNW.

Sounds like pretty good ammo! Does it indicate the powder used and charge weight?

Can't answer your question as I have NEVER bought a box of .357 ammo in my life as I have always reloaded it!

Interesting. I reload my .357, so haven't bot any in years. My daily carry is a 3 Inch Smith M65, but I use Hornady critical self defense in .38 spl. as my carry load. At my wore out age the .357 is almost brutal to shoot. I do shoot it in a converted Martini Cadet tho.

You might want to take a look at Steinel
ammunition Co.

STEINEL .357 PISTOL AMMO
Yes. Steiner is great. I got the ammo for my son’s late 19th century Trapdoor from them. And will have some Garand Safe 30-06 hunting loads coming from them as well. Very high quality stuff.
Depending on the gun and ammo .357 can be brutal to shoot at ANY age!

Large frame 6" (or longer barrels) are not so bad with upper end ammo but 'K' frames 4" or shorter shooting heavy ammo is kind of pointless unless you are into pain!
Yes, about a cylinder’s worth is enough. I used about 21 rounds to sight it and check it at three different distances.
