Hi y'all. I am new to this forum, but not to shooting, although I did take 10 years hiatus due to disabling health conditions. Ten years ago, I sold off all of my guns, ammo, reloading equipment, etc, etc.

Well, I had sold all guns except for one handgun. I was down to one Beretta 92 and two boxes of range ammo, and two really old boxes of Speer Gold Dots.

I used to compete in Bullseye, and IDPA. But I couldn't run the stages in the IDPA matches anymore, and I couldn't stand long enough for the Bullseye matches.

Anyway, my son got out of the Army a year ago. He wanted to trade one of his guns for my Beretta. He was getting hired on as a LEO in another state, and he needed a duty gun. None of his pistols met his department's requirements. So he gave me a 1911 that was basically a target gun.

It had blacked out adjustable sights (BoMar type), two tone finish, and G10 grips. He had decided that he didn't like the gun anymore, so he gave me that one.
I was surprised when he presented it to me, as I wasn't expecting it to be so cool.. He said that he wished that he had just got just a GI model, and he regretted spending so much money on the pistol that he gave me. It was a Colt Custom Shop Series 70, one of 100.

I had given him a few Colts over the years, starting before he went in the Army. When you retire from the Army, you go through a few months of waiting for your final paycheck and for your first pension check to arrive. That is why he didn't just buy another gun.

He was stationed in Germany and there were certain expenses the the Army doesn't pay for when you get out. He wanted to stay in, but they forced him to retire due to medical conditions at 10 years in. We had to help him just a little bit too, but everything worked out.

After he got back and was on his feet a little bit, he took me shooting at one of the local public ranges. I had a blast and was surprised that I felt as well as I did, the day he took me. The seed was planted.

That was a year ago this month. And in that time I have accumulated quite a few guns. Now, with a magazine ban and permit to purchase system looming, I am rebuilding my collection. I have bought several in the last year, with more on the horizon, at least until this state becomes like Illinois and there FOID cards.
