Summer always feels like the slow season for hunting, but I try to use it to get ahead before things get hectic. I've been sorting through my gear and staying active, but I know I'm probably forgetting something crucial; what do you all do during these months to prepare for the upcoming season?

My brother lived to deer hunt. Starting about the middle of July he'd start getting "deery". He'd be gathering gear, hitting the sporting goods stores to see if there was anything he "needed". By the time the season rolled around he had already test packed his truck at least twice. But he was a little on the extreme side. He told more than one employer who didn't want to give him the time off that he was going hunting with his family and if they still wanted him when he got back, then fine. He always had a job waiting when he got back.

Practice shooting and more practice shooting until you can hit what you're aiming at every time from any shooting position. Shooting from a bench is fine for sighting in but not helpful for getting accurate with a rifle. The animals you seek deserve your best efforts.
