Gearing up for surf fishing...

Anybody do much surf fishing? Thru my research I'm beginning to see we don't have much of interest to shoot for. Seems as though they get all the good stuff on the east and gulf coasts. Any experience here on the forum with surf fishing, gear and target species?

The OR coast is great for surf fishing. Pier fishing is just going to get you crabs. You'll find a lot of different species around jettys, and surf perch on the general shore. Below's a link from ODFW with the whats and how tos.

I know folks who have fished for years off the jetty at Ft. Stevens, with great success.
I have fished many times off the jetty at Barview.
We just never know what we'll catch next.
I can't do it any more, and I miss it.
