what should I use for my kid's first fishing trip

I'm thinking about taking my 5-year-old fishing for the first time, and to be honest, I'm a bit lost on what to get. I came across some kid-sized fishing poles at a store recently and they looked pretty cute. Is that the way to go, or should I look for something else? I don't have much experience myself, but I really want to make this a nice little adventure for us. Any advice on bait or just general tips for a first-time outing would be super helpful.

I took both my boys out with some kids poles and whatnot from Wally World. I took them to a local park that had a small fishing lake and just started 'em off with hook, worm and bobbers. Unfortunately, they didn't last long and preferred to go off wondering and exploring. No patience for the fish to bite, I guess! Good luck and hope you have better experience with your son.

Kiddy sized fun spin cast rigs are very appropriate for their intended use. Pautzkes Balls of Fire and nightcrawlers are the preferred baits.

Zebco type closed face reel is your friend. Spend more time fishing and less time untangling snarls.
